HONG KONG, 20th July, 1934.

DEAR

We the undersigned members of the Advisory Board, in association with His Excellency The Governor Sir William Peel, K.C. M.G., K.B.E., His Excellency The General Officer Commanding Major General O. C. Borrett, C.B., C.M.G., C.B.E., D.S.O., and the Commandant of the Corps, are writing this appeal to you to enlist your help and interest in strengthening the numbers of the Defence Corps. Whilst we fully realize the drastic cuts in staff in many firms, we still feel that there are a number of men in the Colony who might well be enrolled in the Corps. We shall be glad therefore if you will please go through the list of members of your staff and endeavour to interest them in the Corps. Men are particularly required at this juncture for the Machine Gun Battalion and the Battery and we would urge all young men to join up in the former. For the Battery the Corps would be prepared to take any fit man of any age, for their duties in future would be such that agility and youth are not a necessity. From the information at our disposal, we know that the training now in force is such as should appeal to the intelligence of a keen man and the knowledge that every man in the Corps has now a definite role in the Defence of the Colony should be a further incentive. We append some figures showing the relative strengths of the units at present and what is expected if the Corps is to be of full efficiency and service to this Colony. In addition to the Units already specifically mentioned, we are anxious to obtain and welcome, recruits for the Engineer and Portuguese Companies.

(Signed)

Yours faithfully,

O. C. BORRETT, Major-General.
